Rushan Khurram 5th Year

Dear AMSS,

Above all, I hope my genuine excitement to serve this Society comes across. The AMSS has spoiled me with people who shaped me. 2025 Exec and everyone along the way gave me a family and memories I don’t need Anki for. It would be a privilege to pay that forward in my final year.

AMSS thrives on three things:

1.Community & Culture:
Culture, Culture, Culture. Worth three words of my word count, because it turns a cohort into community. It’s Jazz Night, thousands of us together for a night nobody forgets. But equally its the fourth-year who stays back to teach a second-year ECGs, its those who come to committee meeting for sushi but stay for the cumby. The big nights are what we’re known for, but the small ones are what we’re made of.

2.Advocacy:
I’m eager to expand advocacy on three fronts. Team Ed - continuing to build the MD around our needs. Second, for each-other, with initiatives like Paid Placement, forging partnerships with SASMOA/AMA to ensure everyone gets a fair go. Finally, outwards by learning to use our voice for issues in the wider community. We’ll no longer accept ‘this is how it’s always been’.

3.Listening:
The AMSS is full of brilliant people. I see this role as a megaphone for amplifying everyone’s voice and turning ideas into action. Nobody joins to be a name on a mailing list.
I believe it's not my job to have all the best ideas, but to notice when you do.

I promise to give everything (including unparalleled vibes on the dance floor), to deliver all three - because when we get this right, the AMSS does what it does best: changing “how do I survive” med school to “how can we thrive.”

Kyan Reimers 4th Year

Hi AMSS!

With the BMS/MD seeing its first graduates, 2027 is a point of inflection; an opportunity to reflect on what works, advocate for what doesn’t, before it becomes “that’s just how it is”.

After a year contributing to national advocacy as your AMSA Rep, I realised the voice of advocacy is YOU, the AMSS. The MedSoc that sets standards nationwide. I hope to channel this passion for advocacy with you to shape your everyday medical school experience.

The status quo doesn’t argue, so we must; and I would be honoured to champion your voices as VP(E) in 2027.

1. Your Daily Experience

Team Ed is already incredibly high-functioning, and I want to build on that legacy by:
- Strengthening inter-year tutoring through targeted Teaching Series for BMS students before exams and third-year OSCEs
- Celebrating Adelaide’s incredible peer-to-peer teaching culture through social media takeovers and group shout-outs
- Increasing visibility through media posts for how we are addressing your concerns with the medical school and the resultant outcomes

2. Advocacy That Delivers

Great advocacy is not just about raising issues; it is about seeing meaningful change. I will continue strong collaboration with AMSA and SASMOA for CPP, AUSA and team equity, while maintaining constructive Faculty relationships and ensuring our AMC survey translates into palpable change. I want students to see these wins through short-form video updates and social media promotion, connecting advocacy directly to your everyday experience.

3. Team Ed Family

Exec in 2025 and convening MedRevue taught me that the strongest teams are built through genuine community. I want Team Ed to be a family that people are eager to belong to: taking meetings beyond the AHMS, creating opportunities for social connection, and building a visible, tight-knit team across all six years and wider committee.

Dinuk Rajapakse 5th Year

Hey everyone,

I’m Dinuk and I’ve had the privilege to be part of Team Ed across the last two years and an Ed Rep this year. I've seen first-hand how a passionate and engaged VP(E) drives the entire team and I would be honored to continue that.

1. No issue too big (or small!)

Long-term, big advocacy projects are invaluable: think AMC survey, electives, course overhauls, paid placement, and I’ll continue to make sure your voice is heard on these issues. But, the everyday inconveniences of medical school matter too: sub-par educational materials and confusing course layouts are everywhere you look, and when it’s so common, it’s too easy to accept it. I want to be part of a Team Ed that is transparent and approachable, one that you feel will listen on any issue that bothers you.

2. Continued educational support

EdPrograms supports every year level through excellent initiatives. I’ll aim to improve these in two ways: firstly, more students than ever are involved in P2P. I'll work to check in with both tutors and pre-clins throughout the year to make sure that everyone receives the support they need. Secondly, I’ll organise an OSCE introduction session for our third years. By knowing what to expect, hopefully your prep will be less stressful than ours!

3. Why advocacy matters to me

Medical school should give each of us the education and clinical exposure we need to excel as doctors. When it doesn’t, we speak up. As individuals, change looks impossible, but as a group we can succeed. The nature of advocacy often means that those successes don’t benefit us, but those that come after. It makes me incredibly proud to know that our work means that every future medical student has a better journey than our own.

Chirath Lekamge 4th Year

I’m Chirath, and I’d be thrilled to be your VP(C)!

This community has given me so much: dear friends, unforgettable memories and a second home. So, giving back is a no-brainer.

To me, VP(C) is about more than Instagram posts. It’s how the AMSS communicates, connects and represents you. I’ve seen the best of us through AMSS Exec in 2025, and serving as GPSN President and AUDPS Treasurer this year. I’ve also seen some rather comical L’s from my time as a H&W Officer… but taking care of each other is what makes the AMSS great. After all, what are leaders if not caretakers of the community they serve?

Having worked in Marketing, Events & Communications in the education sector, and in the AMSA GHC Media & Marketing Management Team in 2024, I have a love for photography, videography, marketing and, importantly, bringing communities together.

Here is my vision for 2027 with my ‘Four C’s of VP(C)’:

1. Community: Building on the great work of my forebears by platforming events and initiatives across social media and member mailouts. Think highlight videos, reels and giveaways!

2. Culture: You, all of our members, are the beating heart of this Society. I want to flip the camera to more student-led initiatives: regular student spotlights, society takeovers and features to showcase the diversity and hard work of our cohorts to platform what really matters - our people.

3. Change: Our role as advocates has never been more important. I want to champion the issues that matter to students through stronger communication and PR opportunities between students and organisations like SASMOA, AMA(SA) and AMSA — turning awareness into action, not just another post on the feed.

Rachel Hay 5th Year

Hey AMSS!
 
I’m Rachel, and if I’m elected treasurer I promise to make the M in AMSS stand for Money. I’m better with numbers than words, so here’s an acrostic poem to express my vision:
 
T: Tasks - I LOVE TASKS SO MUCH - I would love to do all the reimbursements, bookings and invoices.
R: Rachel - I’ve checked the spelling of my own name twice, and that’s about how many times I’d check you’re getting the right reimbursement amount.
E: Everywhere – I love the fact that the treasurer gets to be involved in every corner of the AMSS, from the biggest ball of the year to a Tuesday H&W bake sale.  
A: Accomplished - my time as deputy treasurer has given me the skills, and my experience with TeamEd, being rural rep this year and ed rep for previous years makes me excited to work in a team again!
S: Spreadsheets – guaranteed to be organised, colour coded and pretty.
U: Useful - I will happily mop the floors of Preskeg at 2am.
R: Respectful - I’m so excited at the prospect of working with all the different teams, convenors and committee members on making everyone’s ideas come to life!
E: Enthusiastic - about numbers and keeping this society thriving in a financially sustainable manner.
R: Responsive - as someone chronically on her phone (largely playing soduku) my response times will be generational.
 
Most of all, I want to give back to a society that has given me so much. Exec, to me, is about camaraderie across year levels and turning everyone’s ideas into the best nights of the year. I’d love to be a part of that for one last year - and this time with receipts to show for it.

Zoe Richards 5th Year

Hi everyone! I’m Zoe Richards, a 5th year applying for Socials Officer in 2027. One of my favourite features of our social calendar is obtaining the famed P.E.A.R. (Perfect Event Attendance Record) patch. Here is the P.E.A.R. pitch for why I should be your AMSS Socials Officer:

P: Pretty obsessed with ensuring the AMSS hosts events so good the FMSS keep begging for plus ones!
E: Experienced. I survived convening MedCamp 2023, PresKeg 2024, MedBall 2025 & acting as DepCon for AMSA ADL26 Convention and am ready for my next challenge
A: Affordability. I am committed to keeping tickets accessible despite the climbing cost of living, ensuring you know what every dollar gets you :moneybag:
R: Ready to take YOUR feedback, so we can bring you exactly what you want from each event.

Reigniting the return of MedCamp to Camp Dzintari with zero personal experience of the classic weekend (thank you COVID) taught me AMSS values and team problem-solving. Breaking PresKeg out from the Adelaide Gaol to liven it back up taught me brutal budget management and how to negotiate with new venues. Transforming MedBall into a massive stand-up event at the Adelaide Oval proved how crucial member feedback is to meet the expectations of a massive cohort.

As Deputy Convenor (Socials/Logistics) for AMSA’s 67th National Convention, I battled with venues and accommodation while organising three back-to-back themed nights at different exciting venues, capped off with a Morphettville Racecourse gala for 800 attendees. This relied heavily on my love for Google spreadsheets, strong interpersonal skills, and creative problem solving.

Working under Grace Mitchell, Libby Chisholm, Imogen Ingham, and Ellen Thomas has provided incredible role models. I’d love to continue their legacy of running amazing events in iconic locations, adding my own touch alongside the 2027 Convenors.

Maddy Flapper 5th Year

Dear AMSS,

I’m Maddy, and it would be an honour to be #Engaged to you in 2027 as your Engagement Officer!

The AMSS has been a core part of my medical school life, and next year I promise to provide the same great experience.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to take on a range of roles, including:
- EdRep
- MedRevue Dance Subcommittee
- Junior AMSA Rep
- AMSA GHC24 Socials Subcommittee
- Philanthropy Officer
- MedRevue Convenor
- AMSA ADL26 Convention Management Team (Logistics)

These experiences have given me the skills and knowledge I believe would be perfect for this multifaceted role.

Jethro Edullantes 2nd Year

Hey guys, I hope you’re doing well!

What I value most about AMSS is how much it adds to the experience of studying medicine. Whether it’s the events you look forward to, the people you meet, the platform AMSS provides, or the smaller moments in between, it all helps make six years of medicine feel more connected.

Since 2025, I’ve been involved across TeamEd, AMSS events, other medical societies and, of course, AMSA ADL26. Through those experiences, I’ve learnt that good engagement often comes down to a few things: feeling welcomed, knowing your voice has been heard, lending a hand when needed, and being open to feedback.

If elected, I would focus on three things.

Make membership worthwhile: I want to build on the benefits, partnerships and merchandise people already enjoy, while finding new ideas that add something back to AMSS. Such as extending the discount to more Yo-Chi locations? Yuku-Do? Sit Lo? Arc’teryx or Patagucci? Too ambitious? Never.

Keep all six years connected: Naturally, as we move from AHMS into clinical placements around South Australia staying connected to the wider AMSS community becomes less easy. I want to keep creating reasons for every year level to feel involved, from O’Week through to sixth year + beyond.

Be a familiar face: Engagement is ultimately about people. I want any one of you to feel comfortable approaching me with an idea, feedback, help, wisdom (I’m old), or something you want help getting across the line. I want to get to know the people who make AMSS what it is, understand what matters most, and help create the spaces and opportunities for ideas to grow.

I’d love the privilege of bringing my energy, creativity and willingness to get involved as Engagement Officer in 2027.

Coming to an AMSS near you - Spiderman: We Need a Loan


Hey AMSS!

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of serving as your secretary, and between noting down Kash’s monologues and picking up an endless supply of vomit bags, I’ve gotten a peek behind the scenes into how the AMSS runs. Everyone knows that our members are the lifeblood of the AMSS. But if members are the lifeblood, sponsors are our blood supply, and I want to make sure we never run out.

This year, we’ve seen enormous leaps forward across the society, and this is momentum we would be remiss not to build on.

Annie has done an incredible job with the education program this year, opening the door to bringing in more education sponsors and, in turn, facilitating bigger and better events.

Bella has secured our first long-term Medball sponsor. If we’ve managed it once, there is no reason we can’t do it again, and again.

We’ve also seen the first examples of sponsors helping students travel interstate for key events, like Rural Health Summit. We have the opportunity to grow these programs and make participation even more accessible for those who want it most.

We already have the momentum. Now, we need to turn this into long-term partnerships that give the AMSS the resources to do more for its members.

So, vote for me for Sponsorship Officer.

Sunny Ly 2nd Year

Heya!
I’m Sunny, and I’d love to be your Sponsorship Officer for 2027.
Now, you may know me more by taste (of my food) than my name, but if you know anything about me, much like me at any bar, I love having older guys (and girls) buy me stuff.
And I want to pay that talent forward.
I’ve had the pleasure of being the 2026 AUCVS Sponsorship Officer, so I’m already familiar with the less glamorous side of the job: hounding people for money, hounding them again for a response, and maintaining an elaborate spreadsheet.
And remember this year's pub-crawl, the one with the drunk rabbit? Remember it being the biggest AMSS pubcrawl in history? Remember the last-minute venue swap and swathes of drink deals?
I’ve had the pleasure of convening with my fellow year-rep Darshi, and I can personally say that all those late-night phone calls, emails, and crash-outs have made me battle-ready.
But I believe sponsorship can be much more than putting money in the AMSS bank account.
I see more stethoscopes given out to first-years.
I see crates of Red-Bulls and Monsters during the exam grind.
I see more students being given a go, to represent us at interstate conferences and opportunities that they otherwise couldn’t afford.
And I know we can build an AMSS with an ever impressive network of partners; from big academic institutions to the fun and caffeinated ones.
We’ve already seen what can happen when we build these relationships. Medball has got InHealth hooked for five years, Careers Conference brought together an absolute smorgasbord of sponsors, and we’re starting to make opportunities like Rural Health Summit more accessible by subsidising flights and accommodation.
Why stop there?

Emma Choi 1st Year

Hi AMSS!
I’m (another) Emma, and I’m super excited to nominate to be your 2027 Secretary!

What qualifies me, you ask? Excellent question. At the tender age of eight, I was crowned Typing Tournament (iykyk) Champion of my year in primary school. While the rest of my classmates were battling with their times tables, I was busy flying through the keyboard. I’ve been chasing that high ever since - and honestly, I think this past year might just have topped it!

As First Year Rep, I’ve loved being involved in the AMSS this year - from events and Committee meetings to, for some unbeknownst reason, ending up in another Messenger group chat. Most importantly, I’ve loved getting to know the people (YOU!!!) who make this society so wonderful, and I’m keen to build on that as Secretary. I want to be a friendly, approachable face who you can rely on to follow things up. I’m also a big believer in communication (a euphemism for admitting that I’m frequently told to shut up), so I’m eager to make sure everyone across all six years feels in the loop and knows what’s happening behind the scenes. As a chronic Type A, I’m ready to take on the minutes, emails, agendas, spreadsheets, and the sacred responsibility of keeping the Backrooms - sorry, the storeroom - organised.

Eight-year-old me had the WPM, and eighteen-year-old me has loved every minute of being part of AMSS this year. So if nothing else, I promise the minutes will be typed very, very quickly!

Emma Jorgensen 5th Year

Hey everyone, I'm Emma, and I'd love to be your AMSS Secretary.

Across five years in medical school, I've spent plenty of time getting amongst it through AMSS, SIGs, MedRevue, AdeLadies, AUMO, SPUDS, and countless events. This has given me a strong understanding of how the AMSS operates and what helps committees, convenors, and Executive members succeed. I’ve also developed skills in previous secretarial and event convening roles that I can bring to the Executive team.

As Secretary, my goal is simple: support the people who make the AMSS tick and help the Society run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Committee Meetings
Committee meetings should be efficient, informative, and worth attending. I’ll provide clear pre-reading guidelines and make minutes and meeting summaries accessible through the AMSS website so members can stay informed. I’ll treat committee meetings as the events they are, with promotion and of course excellent food.

Organisation
I will maintain a live storeroom inventory, create standardised handover resources, and continue decluttering and streamlining the AMSS Drive. These improvements will save time, reduce confusion, and improve continuity between committees.

Culture and Community
I'm a huge believer in getting amongst it (GAI) and want to make involvement in AMSS as easy as possible. I’ll create a “Guide to Getting Involved” outlining both formal roles and informal opportunities to volunteer and contribute.
Across my time in medical school, I've seen the value of a strong community and will continue to foster the welcoming and inclusive culture built on traditio, spiritus and gaudium that makes the AMSS so special.

Some of my closest friendships, favourite memories, and most rewarding opportunities during medical school have come through the AMSS. I’d love to spend my final year supporting the people, events, and traditions that make it so great.

Alana Wilkinson 3rd Year

Hi everyone!

My name is Alana Wilkinson, and I am a third-year medical student at Adelaide University (I think this phrasing is permanently ingrained now!), and I’m applying to be your 2027 secretary!

To me, secretary is one of those truly ‘for the people’ roles; not just the Executive, but also the Committee, and certainly its members! The secretary is so central, playing a vital role in connecting all parts of the AMSS.

Let it be known that beautiful documentation and accessible storerooms are my jam, having worked as an SA Government Administrative Officer, an AURHA Program Coordinator, and a ClinPrac Convener! However, I believe this role is well set up to be so much more than the person typing away at the speed of light in the corner!

My vision for secretary is one of connection. An opportunity to promote culture, be an approachable and accessible member of the Executive and bridge the everyday concerns of a medical student through our committee meetings.

My goals:
- Highlighting the committee meeting in all its glory, communicating the incredible things this team tackles to present the AMSS as we, its members, know it.
- Creating video wrap ups for committee meetings, dispelling the myths about the presumed boring, bureaucratic-ness, of it all! I’m going for a TLDA kind of vibe – that’s Too Long, Didn’t Attend for those unfamiliar! And all in all, making AMSS meetings more accessible, regardless of your attendance.
- Being a friendly, open, AMSS face!

I am super keen to bring these thoughts to actuality. I can hardly wait to hustle the next round of bright-eyed first years into this beautiful community that has taught me so much about what it means to represent your peers and the honour that it is.

Jocelyn Mow 2nd Year

Hi! I’m Jocelyn (right) and I would be ecstatic to be your secretary

The AMSS has been a whole lot of fun in the past 2 years. It’s brought great memories, and even better friends. Having been involved as Ed Rep and AMSA ADL26, it would be an honour to dip my toes in exec as secretary.

As someone chronically on TikTok, looking up places to eat is my specialty. I'm the type of person that when I go to a restaurant, I’m only looking at the menu performatively because I already knew exactly what I was ordering. I believe this makes me insanely qualified to decide on committee meeting food. Being on the logistics team for ADL26 (and packing sushi for hundreds of delegates), I’m confident that I can not only think of great food options, but also cater for enough people and get it at a good price.

The S in secretary stands for store room. I know how important having organised supplies is for the smooth running of events. After all, how could events like MedCamp run without a Hydralyte storage spot. My mental wellbeing is definitely reflective of how messy my room is. So, I would make sure the storeroom is tidy, organised and easy to use. I want to make the life of all 2027 event convenors as easy as possible.

While some may hate the idea of sitting at meetings and taking notes, the Type A in me doesn’t. A lot goes down in AMSS meetings. From the pivotal discussions on advocacy to jokes all in good faith, there’s a lot to be recorded! With a passable MonkeyType words per minute and a hatred for bad spelling, I’d be excited to handle all the agendas, pre-agendas, minutes, etc.

Hey everyone!! My name is Christine and I’m keen to be your Early Clinical Education Officer! As an Academic Leader at MedCamp, First Year ClinPrac Convenor, AUCVS Education Officer, and a member of the AMSS’ first preclinical EMC team this year, I have been fortunate enough to gain a wide range of experience in all things medical education. Maddie Moss 5th Year

Mathilda (Tilly) Meinecke 4th Year

I’ve always loved rural health, so I’d be keen to be AMSS's rural rep next year (which I'll be spending in lincoln/ceddy). I’ve been involved in rural health through a bunch of roles especially in AURHA, including president this year, and I’ve enjoyed organising events, bringing students together, and advocating for them. Sienna Masen 4th Year

Hi, I’m Sienna! Much like orange juice, I’m hoping to bring something fresh and positive to the Senior AMSA Rep role in 2027.

Next year, I’ll focus particularly on issues such as paid placements and equity, and collaborate appropriately with the newly formed SA MSC to ensure our advocacy is connected locally and nationally. Attending ADL26 was a highlight of my year, and I’d love to bring that energy to Junior AMSA Rep!

Next year, I hope to boost Vampire Cup engagement through year-level competitions and the Tri-Society Blood Drive. I’m passionate about advocacy and getting involved in policy, particularly around paid placements and specialist training pathways.

hi! i’m annabel, a second year medical student. can i confirm you are my supervising amss members?

i would love to be your junior amsa representative, to bring innovation to vampire cup and streamline convention, while working alongside, and learning from, senior amsa.

as jamsa 2027, my assessment is the importance of making BRIS27 fun and accessible, to maintain engagement from ADL26, and to be actively involved in policy voting to promote change.

I would love to bring a new perspective to IT officer next year! With a programming background (see my work at atlasweb.dev and damaremosaics.com), I have the experience to give our IT great new updates: think tickets saved to wallet apps for faster entry to events, a MedCamp score tracker, or simply keeping our website organised. Our website is a strong platform for advocacy, and I would ensure it is used to its full potential. Canva and I have become quite well acquainted over my 5 years of med school - from my roles in AMSF, PaedSoc, and as MedBall convenor. This, alongside my childhood passion for making iMovie trailers, equips me well for a year of being an influencer/graphic designer/editor (see photo for evidence!).

We are three former state athletes in our respective sports, who also have a past in student leadership and event coordination. John - a footballer and cricketer, is a former college and football captain, bringing passion and creative thinking to the role. Krish - a tennis prodigy, is a former school prefect and tennis captain, bringing humour, medical references, and great vibes. hi lovelies!
my passion for research ignited recently, when i presented at the 2026 ASSC surgical conference. i remember wondering what on earth an ‘abstract’ was (i was only familiar with abstract paintings). what fuelled my heart was standing proudly in front of my poster, knowing about a niche neurosurgical topic, and having insightful conversations about robotic assisted surgery with strangers (wish i knew that much for my MS2A exam!) if you want an eye-opening experience like mine, i can bring to you:

We’d love to be your 2027 Philanthropy Officers!!!!

Vision:
• Launch “Philanthropy Week”!!!!!!!! A week dedicated to teaming up with Medsocities for donation drives, daily small charity activities (with inter-year competition for participation), and the week culminating with an inaugural charity event!!!! We’ll coincide this with the Vampire Cup Drive to further grow engagement too.

• We will incorporate YOUR voice in charity selection.

• For SSS we’d look into securing long-term sponsors, and rebranding the event to reflect the growing partnership between societies. Together we bring a strong skillset as events convenors, AMSA convention team and prior AMSS roles.
