This meeting of the Medical School's MPPD Advisory Committee focused on student health & well-being and was attended by the AMSS LGBQTI+ Officer (Ricky Stocker-Johns) and AMSS Vice President (Education) (Malcolm Borg). The key outcomes/areas of discussion are included below.

  • Uni counselling services at the AHMS: The University Counselling Service will be trialling having counsellors present at the AHMS for three 50 minute sessions, one day each week in 2018. This service will start on the 28th of February. Click here for further details.
  • Mental Health Days-off: Mental illness is treated in the same manner as physical illness. Hence, days off for mental health reasons are permissible both in the pre-clinical and clinical years via submission of the appropriate leave of absence forms. Click here for further details.
  • The potential provision of Mental Health First Aid Training and visiting university counselling services at clinical placement sites were discussed.

We at Team Ed intend to keep students in the loop regarding the outcomes of the advocacy we undertake for issues you raise. As part of "completing the feedback loop" we will be posting concise meeting summaries for staff meetings that occur throughout the year. If you have any questions or are keen to be involved in the work of Team Ed, please contact the AMSS Vice President (Education) at vpe@amss.org.au.
