Vertical Year Groups, Med school's best kept secret.
It's an opportunity to get to know Med students from other year
levels, as well as an outside member of the medical community
(i.e. a doctor). There are 2 students from each year level in
each group with a doctor mentoring the group.
Basically, it's a win-win situation for everyone, and everyone's
got something to gain. 1st yrs get to know other 1st yrs in
their group, younger years learn a lot from the older years
about what happens in the med course, the older years find out
what it's like to be an intern, registrar, etc, and the doctor
finds out what's happening with medical students these days.
The groups meet up about twice a term, or as often as they want!
These 'meetings' are in a very chilled out, casual environment.
Some examples are:
- Going out for pizza
- A few games of tennis
- Coffee/dinner at a café
- Mini golf
- BBQ
- Paint ball
VYG is what you want it to be, it all depends on how willing you
are to roll out of bed, and other difficult tasks...
