Choosing a position to nominate for on the AMSS Committee can be hard, there is so much variety! We hope that this page will make it easier...

Below you will find the positions on the AMSS Committee that will be elected at the AGM, and some include a snapshot of the what the role includes (still waiting on all snapshots to be written!). There is also a link to contact the current position holder(s) if you wish to do so. Contact details are also included at the top of the position snapshot.

 

AMSA Blood Drive

From now until the end of August, if you donate blood or blood products at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, you can help the AMSS in its quest to claim the coveted AMSA Vampire Cup, as well as making a difference to the lives of people in need.

It’s simple – when making an appointment at either the Pirie St or Currie St donation centre, just mention the AMSA Blood Drive and quote the special code ‘8BAMS’. Then print and fill out one of the AMSA donor forms (see attachment) and take it with you to your appointment.

AMSA National Leadership Development Seminar – 7th to 9th September

The AMSA National Leadership Development Seminar is an exciting program open to all medical students aspiring to be leaders of the future. This year, it will take place from 7th to 9th September at Parliament House, Canberra and will be hosted by the Federal Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon. Nicola Roxon MP.

 

You will have the opportunity to question and debate our current parliamentarians and other leaders in the health and education sector about their leadership and the myriad of medico-political issues facing medical students and our health system.

Doctors' Health Fund Bursary Scheme

The Doctors’ Health Fund & AMSA set up a bursary scheme for medical students at the beginning of 2007. The aim of the scheme is to provide as many students as possible with financial assistance, which would help them with some of the costs of their study, such as texts or equipment, or help them develop professionally; perhaps to develop their skills and knowledge as a student or to help define their career directions. Over $70,000 has been granted in bursaries over the last two years to students from every Australian medical school.
