AMSA Convention

AMSA runs a series of events throughout the year including its National Leadership Development Seminar (NLDS) and Global Health Conference (GHC). But AMSA’s biggest enterprise, the flagship event of the medical student year, is the week-long AMSA Convention held annually during the mid year break. Convention is hosted by the contingent MedSocs of each state on a rotational basis, allowing for variation of ideas, venues and people in the process. This year Convention celebrates its 50th anniversary in Brisbane, July 5-12.

AMSA Convention combines a five-day academic programme consisting of lectures, workshops, field trips and an interactive Emergency Medicine Challenge, with a seven-night social programme including themed parties, a pub crawl and a formal Gala Dinner. Over the years AMSA has built a reputation for seeking some of the world’s greatest speakers and medical big-names for its plenary sessions, invariably drawing huge crowds to early morning sessions after late nights socialising around town.

All past delegates would agree that if there’s one thing you should experience during med school, AMSA Convention is it. An invaluable opportunity to learn, network and let your hair down with friend new and old, Convention is the highlight of many students’ med school calendar.
