Men Of Med
Saturday, 21 February 2009 22:12
No Adelaide medicine event is shrouded in mystery more than Men of Med. For months the excitement builds up, with both seasoned veterans and first year newbies waiting in eager anticipation for Medicines loosest night. Finally, the day of the big event arrives, and the buzz around the Medical school is truly palpable. Those who have been there before relax in the comfort that they have seen it all before, and surely this year can be no more outrageous, nor filled with any more debauchery then the previous years. But, for those of you who fill this category, I assure you that Men of Med for 2009 will be the loosest, most eye-opening and most outrageous (hand actions included) night that you have ever had.
And for those of you who do not fill this category, whether you are a fresh, innocent first year face, or an older boy who has missed out in years gone by, for you, this night means the most. For you, Men of Med is merely the rumors, the scuttlebutt and the unbelievable stories. Stories of boys becoming men, of fantastic ‘rinking names being formed from the most shocking, nigh on offensive situations, and of loose, loose behavior. But I am here to tell you gents, and the experienced MOM’s will surely agree, that Men of Med is not merely about the debauchery, the sexual misdeeds and the schmeer. It is about the bonds that are formed between an already tight group of young men. Adelaide Medical School is the best medical school in the country because of the closeness of its students. Nowhere else in Australia do you find the amount of inter year level friendships that we have here in Adelaide. Men of Med is a pivotal night in maintaining these levels of interaction.
So to all you older boys I say, let’s make MOM 2009 as memorable for the new first years as it was for us when we first had the honor. Get involved, talk it up and make sure you are there on the night. And for those who have never been before, I implore you not to miss out on what will truly be one of the most memorable nights of your Medical School life.
