Adelaide University Medical Orchestra
Established in 2008, The Adelaide University Medical Orchestra is the world’s first single faculty Medical Student Orchestra. With a great level of enthusiasm and immense musi¬cal talent within the medical school, the prospect of forming their own Orchestra was an idea they could bring to reality.
The music program has expanded to incorporate over 100 medical students – comprising an orchestra, stage band, vocal ensemble and dance crew. AUMO has provided an opportunity for medical students to express themselves through creative arts, while sharing our music with the wider community and raising awareness and funds for medical charities that contribute to the wellbeing of others.
Through 2008, members of the Orchestra embraced the opportunity to share its music at various medical and charity functions, as well as a Christmas Project at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. In 2009, they will build upon their public performances and host their very own recital at Scott Theatre on May 24.
AUMO’s artistic style encompasses both classical masterpieces and contemporary works, along with innovative projects formed through arrangements and compositions by members of the Orchestra.

AUMO’s Premier Recital...
It all began with a love of music.
We have nurtured it, cherished it and watched it grow.
Finally, after 9 months of anticipation, we are ready to deliver.
On the 24th May 2009, witness the miracle of aumogenesis: the birth of sound.
Audiences will be propelled through a spectacle of awe and wonder, as we extend and redefine the boundaries of orchestral music. We will challenge and broaden both musicians’ and audience’s perspective of music through a unique and vivacious culmination of music and other facets of the creative arts.
AUMO’s Orchestra, Stage Band, Vocal Ensemble and Dance Crew will perform alongside our guest artist Staff Members from the Medical Faculty.
Definite highlights of the recital will include the World premiere of an Orchestral Hip Hop Arrangement, Coldplay’s Viva la vida, Super Mario Theme, Jazz impros, dazzling vocal pieces and Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.1.
Proceeds from the raffle and silent auction will support Insight’s sustainable projects; Net Attack and the Cambodia World Family.
Refreshments will be available during the interval.
