MedCamp is an incredible weekend – we hope it is one of the best you willl have this year!

The Adelaide Medical Students’ Society (AMSS) encourages you to come and get to know the new first year students at an afternoon at the beach and following that the Saturday night party. The AMSS wants you to have a fun time for which MedCamp is renowned, but we also important to take your safety seriously. We aim to provide a fun, relaxed and safe environment for all attendee students.Therefore we have a series of guidelines we woul’d like you to understand.

It is important that all attendees to MedCamp understand and acknowledge that:

1.    Tthere may are be some risks associated with the MedCamp;
2.    These risks could result in personal injury or death, or damage or loss of personal property;  weekend
3.    Tthe AMSS does not accept liability for theseall risks; and
4.    Tthere are associated requirements for attendee behaviour.

The areas of risk, the safeguards put in place by the AMSS, and the associated requirements for attendee behaviour are outlined under the various headings below.

Alcohol

MedCamp is a licensed event; alcohol is provided to attendees in accordance with the relevant legislation and the AMSS Drug and Alcohol Policy. It is expected that attendees drink responsibly throughout the event. Alcohol will not be served to attendees under the age of 18, or anyone deemed to be intoxicated. Attendees must not bring their own alcohol to MedCamp.

Illicit drugs

The AMSS has a zero-tolerance policy to illicit drugs and does not accept any liability for any property damage, personal injury or death consequences of associated with the use or possession of illicit drugs at MedCamp.

Any students found to be using, or in the possession of, illicit drugs will be required to leave the premises immediately. They will be required to arrange their own transport back to Adelaide.

Transport

Attendees are required to arrange their own transport to the event. The AMSS encourages students to car-pool to the event. Attendees under the influence of alcohol will not be given unsupervised access to their vehicles, and must not under any circumstance drive their vehicles. It is expected that all attendees drive with care and respect in and around the campsite.

Sports and activities

Attendees that participate in sports and activities provided at MedCamp do so at their own risk. The risk of exposure from inclement weather should also be acknowledged and managed appropriately by attendees.

Behaviour

The AMSS will not tolerate any forms of harassment (physical, social or sexual), bullying or other social misconduct during the course of MedCamp. Furthermore, attendees that engage in irresponsible or reckless social behaviour do so at their own risk. The AMSS does not accept any liability for the consequences of irresponsible social behaviour at MedCamp.

Theft and Damage to property

Any person that is caught damaging or stealing property, including but not limited to the property of Camp Dzintari, will be required to leave the event and will be required to arrange their own transport back to Adelaide. The AMSS will not be liable for any damage to, or loss of, personal property brought to MedCamp. Attendees should not bring valuable goods such as laptop computers. Any possessions are the responsibility of the owner.

Medical conditions and allergies

Attendees with known medical conditions that might influence their health at MedCamp must make these known to the MedCamp Convenors via email (medcamp@amss.org.au) before Friday 4 March 2011. This is particularly important for those with conditions that require regular medication.

Attendees with known allergies must make these known to the MedCamp Convenors via email (medcamp@amss.org.au) before Friday 4 March 2011. If any allergies are not made aware to the appropriate convening persons and an event occurs in which an attendee’s health is compromised as a result, the AMSS and any convening persons are not responsible for the event and will not be held accountable.

Welfare Officers

There will be doctors and older students acting as Welfare Officers for the entirety of MedCamp. If you have any concerns about your own safety, the behaviour of other MedCamp attendees or any other problems, please make sure you speak to one of these Officers.
