Financial Assistance Stream | Personal and Community Development Stream
Establishment and viability
The Adelaide Medical Students’ Society (AMSS or the Society) Benevolent Fund is a philanthropic initiative that the Society originally established with funds from the AMSS General Fund and contributions from its Major Partners. The aim of the fund is to provide financial support for members of the Society through two separate streams: a Financial Assistance Stream and a Personal and Community Development Stream. The specifics of each of these streams are outlined in full below.
The award of financial support from the Benevolent Fund is regulated by a selection committee consisting of the President, Vice President (Communication), Treasurer and two independent members of staff. This committee assesses formal applications made to the Benevolent Fund and determines which shall be successful. Applications remain confidential to the committee. The Benevolent Fund had a starting balance of $6,000.00 which was placed in a cash management fund. The minimum balance of the fund must not fall below $5000.00. To this end, the amount given to recipients of the Fund will reflect the individual’s financial situation and the need to ensure the longevity of the Fund.
Future AMSS Committees will contribute to the fund as they see fit with the possibility of ongoing support from external sources. It will be understood that while no repayment of assistance received from the Fund is required, it is anticipated that recipients will contribute to the Fund once their financial position has improved.
