Election Procedure
Nominations
- Students wishing to nominate for any of the positions other than
Skullduggery, MedCamp, Functions and MedRevue should do so by filling in
the online nomination form.
- Candidates are required to write a short statement (max 50 words for
committee and max 100 words for executive) outlining their reasons for
nominating, which will be displayed on the website.
- An email will be sent confirming receipt of your nomination.
- Students wishing to nominate for positions should do so by 5pm Friday
12th September.
- On Monday 15th September, the website will be updated and will show
nominated candidates and their statements.
- From Monday 15th September, proxy votes for these candidates can be
sent to
returningofficer@amss.org.au with a reason for why a proxy vote is being
submitted.
Proxy votes will only be accepted for substantial reason for
non-attendance at AGM such as on medical or geographical grounds (rural
placement). Assignment or work commitments are not substantial reasons
and validity will be handled at the discretion of the Returning Officer
and election panel.
Late Nominations
- Nominations will be accepted up until election time (~6:30pm) on the
night of the AGM.
- Nominations received after 5pm Friday 12th September will not be
eligible for proxy votes
Voting Procedure
- Students nominated for Executive positions will have 2 minutes to speak at the AGM, followed by questions from the floor.
- Students nominated for Committee positions will have 1 minute to speak at the AGM, followed by questions from the floor.
- Voting will be by secret ballot and successful candidate chosen by simple majority.
Convenor Elections Applications for MedCamp Convenors, Skullduggery Convenors, Functions
Officers and MedRevue Convenors are now open.
MedCamp, Functions, MedRevue
- Students wishing to nominate for MedCamp, Functions and MedRevue should do so by submitting a one-page cover letter including relevant past experience, and one page outlining their ideas and initiatives for the event(s) to the AMSS Secretary, secretary@amss.org.au by Tuesday 9th September.
- A detailed proposal is not required.
- Candidates will be judged on their ideas and initiatives for the event(s), the previous experience of the candidates, and organisational skills and motivation.
- Candidates will then be invited to discuss their proposal at a short interview with the AMSS Executive and the existing officebearers on Thursday 11th September. Appointment of convenors by this panel will be made on the basis of the application and interview.
Skullduggery
Nominations for Skullduggery have now closed.
